The Top 3 Destinations Currently Open for Summer Travel
The Top 3 Destinations Currently Open for Travel
With us all being grounded and stuck at home the past few months it’s been a relief to start to come out of the other side of COVID-19. As the weather starts to heat up, I hope I’m not the only one that gave a little squeal of joy when the government announced plans to create travel corridors across Europe this summer. Let’s face it, most of us would rather be on the beach with a cocktail in hand than stuck locked up at home this summer. Here at Flight Patrol we’ve had a detailed look at the new government travel and safety guidelines and assessed all European travel rules to find the top destinations that are open to UK travellers without the need to self-isolate to give you the best places to travel this summer for the most needed break of all time.
Italy
A classic for a reason. Nothing beats an Italian summer holiday. The choices of holiday type are endless in Italy. Go South for some intense heat or lounge around Tuscany where you can do nothing but eat and swim all day. With Italy, which thankfully includes Sicily and Sardinia, open to those departing from the UK with no need to isolate it’s a wonderful choice. If you do want to do some sightseeing make sure you look up all the places you want to see (Pompeii, the Colosseum etc.) so you know what is and is not open. Be sure to pack your facemask so that you can still attend museums and galleries in a safe and protected way. Tourist attractions will have their own rules so pack with that in mind.
Croatia
Too often forgotten by UK travellers, Croatia is a pristine Mediterranean dream. The Croatian government is now welcoming European travellers back to its picturesque hills and shores. Not just for Games of Thrones lovers (although it can be a bonus), Croatia is renowned for its wine, seafood and medieval castles. If you want something a bit off the beaten path, where you can experience something new Croatia is your best bet this summer. Either laze on the beach on one of the dozens of islands or cycle the gorgeous vineyard filled hills. You will not need to self-isolate on arrival but, it’s important to note that they are requiring all visitors to declare their reasons for travel to the country. But they have stressed that tourism and travel are welcome reasons. You must also show them your accommodation booking on arrival.
Spain
A British favourite. We all love Spain, and I for one really miss it. Travellers departing from the UK do not need to isolate and can go about their usual holiday bliss. Do keep in mind that it’s probably safer to stick to smaller towns and areas this summer. If you miss clubbing and bars it is important to know that they are still mainly closed or with tight restrictions. So this year it’s better to go for a relaxed Spain vibe and let the stress of this year melt away.
Anywhere else?
Greece will most likely be reopened to UK Travellers from the 15th of July. However, this is subject to change so if you don’t want to worry after booking it may be better to skip this year. France is also unfortunately a difficult one. Although UK travellers are welcome, you must self-isolate for 14 days on arrival making a holiday there pretty unrealistic for most this summer.
Although we certainly have less choice this year it’s amazing to see that we can get out there again and visit some of our European favourites. Travel corridors are creating a safer way of travel for all of us. Just make sure you check government and European guidelines before booking as well as before departing.
